As you remember from my last blog, it was a challenge getting to Windsor from Belle River. The weather had Dax and I socked in until nearly 6pm. We finally felt that it was safe enough that we could chance it and ride the next 18 kms into Windsor where Benny, our Warmshowers host and his family were waiting for us with a warm welcome, a hot meal and a safe place to pitch the tent. He did apologize the next morning for not giving me heads up about his neighbour who sits up all night on his back porch coughing.. I didn’t hear the neighbour until 1 am. Scared the bejeeses out of me. I unzipped my tent to look if someone had snuck into the backyard, but there wasn’t anyone insight. I called out,”who’s there!”- but no answer. It took a few more coughs before I cottoned on that it was the neighbour in his yard. I fell asleep and was pretty rested the next day considering how stressful the last 24 hours had been. We laughed about it all the next morning. My mood had also brightened with the morning sun and a promise of great weather to come for the next week. Benny sent us off with a great breakfast, lots of fresh water and all our electronics fully charged and with an invite to return. We look forward to visiting Benny and his family again.

We found the Earl Gray Parkway to be quit the trail. Lights for night travel. Overpasses to jump all the major highways in the area. The views were amazing. Lots of green space along the trail with benches and rest areas. Not a lot of shade and if you aren’t on an e-bike, be prepared for kms worth of hill riding(ie overpasses). I did come upon the back side of St Clair College residences, which brought back memories of taking my daughter to residence for her first year of college. I taught a impromptu fly casting class to her room mates that day after we got her all settled in. Good times!
Dax and I travelled that day till we arrived near the Memorial Gardens. It was close to sunset and we were hot and tired. In my next blog, Dax and I find a pitch near the Memorial Gardens and settle in for a good night sleep and dreamed about what the Chrysler Greenway Trail would be like…not what we were expecting that’s for sure!!
Don’t forget to like and leave a comment. You being here and enjoying these blogs means the world to Dax and me!! We’d love to hear your thoughts.
