Coming into Rondeau Provincial Park was a nice ride. The traffic was heavy but respectful. It was shaping up to be another extremely hot sunny day. Getting most of our riding over before 9 or 10 in the morning was proving to be the game changer. Getting up around 4 am and on the road by 5:30 am was also proving to be the best choice for keeping our wild camping spots incognito. This also left the majority of the day to find shade, water, food, rest and read. Now that sounds like a great holiday to me!!

While I was charging up my phone using my solar panel and waiting for my laundry to dry, I was approached by a fellow in need of help. He saw my rig and figured I probably had the tools he was looking for to get the bike rack adjusted on his car roof so he could load his bike and go home. He was in a bit of a panic, since he was stuck if he couldn’t get the rack fixed. Of course I had what he needed. Off he went with my tools and about an hour later his son came to give them back with a big thank you.. we saved the day!!!

We found this cute little art display along the road to the dog beach. Dax and I had spent most of the day at the camp visitor centre hanging out. Talking to people who were interested in our fundraising adventures, sorting through our gear to make sure everything was in good working order, eating lunch and having a nap under the trees in the cool shade. We met a nice couple from St Thomas, Michael and Sherry who we visited with and who offered to share a patch of grass on their camp site for my tent for the night.

Dax and I went for a swim at the dog beach and then rode back to the pavilion near the camp store to spend another hour or so watching the sun set while eating dinner. After that, we made our way over to find Michael and Sherry’s campsite. We were greeted with open arms!! We enjoyed good conversation around the camp fire till it was time to hit the hey..
I settled in for a few hours sleep before the racoons found my stash of food and started to tare apart my trailer. Boy were they mad when I got up to shew them away while they screamed at me.. it wouldn’t be till day light that I would be able to see the extent of damage they had caused.. Since it was 4:30 am, Dax and I quietly packed up and started off in the dark. It was on down the road for us.. we were greeted with the most beautiful sunrise we had ever seen as we made our way along the lakeshore. Traffic was non existent and the few people we did meet who were up early and out walking were friendly and cheerful.
Follow along to hear more in my next episode about finding a really great wild camp and eating road kill for the first time… (just kidding🤪)
