About me
Hi!! I’m Kj(short for Kerryjane), a senior solo bike tourer who loves travelling with my Service Dog, Dax. Join us as we explore the rail trails and backcountry roads of southwestern Ontario, Canada by bike.
Bio:
I’m a senior who lives in London, Ont with my 9 year old Service Dog, Dax, a 70lb black lab. He is a Certified Service Dog through the “Thames Centre Service Dogs” in Mount Bridges, Ontario, who specializes in Sevice Dogs for First Responders. I was a First Responder for several years as an OPP Constable with the Highway Safety Division, Auxiliary out of Niagara Falls, Ontario.
Dax has also achieved his Canadian Kennel Club – CKC “Canine Good Neighbour” Certificate for Public Access. He has all his required vaccines up to date and is well trained, quiet, loves people and other animals.
Often times Dax will bike-tour with me. He is a warm cuddle-bug, good companion and protection when wild-camping. I’ve been long distance bike touring with Dax since 2019.
In 2019, Dax and I did a biketour of approximately 300km over 6 days in Norfolk County, Ont.
In June of 2020, Dax and I biketoured a loop from London, ON to St.Mary’s, Stratford, Kitchener, Cambridge, Paris, Waterford, Simcoe, Port Ryerse, Port Burwell, St.Thomas and home to London. This was over 500 kms and took approximately 22 days.
We have completed the following Rail Trails:
Cambridge to Waterford, Simcoe to Dover, Delhi to Dover, Brantford/Waterford to Simcoe, Hamilton to Brantford, Earl Gray Parkway, TVP Parkway, Chrysler Green Parkway and the Great Water Front Trail from Stoney Point through Windsor around to Leamington to Port Burwell.
Some of my other goals are to complete the G2G and the Great Water Front Trail along Lake Erie.
I have a Raleigh Hybrid 3.0, a 1990’s Miele MTB as well as an Iron Horse Boreum Fat Bike, along with a dog trailer that has been modified to suit our long distance needs for comfort and safety.
I don’t have any food allergies, am a non smoker and avoid sugar. I’m also an introvert and after a long day of riding, I’m looking forward to setting up camp and resting. I’m most comfortable sleeping in my tent with Dax.
For the most part, except for maybe needing to recharge my phone batteries and water, I travel fully self sufficient.
Future Bike Touring Plans: I’d like to plan a bike tour around the Great Lakes and another bike tour from Mackinaw Island, Michigan to London, Ontario. Staying with Warmshowers.org Hosts would be a great way to get to know these areas better.
Why I tour: To experience travel freedom, meet new people and enjoy the adventures
How I tour: Solo with my dog, Fat Bike and dog trailer that carries all the amenities of home.
